Citizens For Families

It has been Red Ribbon Week at my son Ben’s school this week. A lot of good information on being drug free and safe has been coming home.  I called the PTA President to see if his school sponsors White Ribbon Week and she said no.  So I’ve volunteered to help get that organized.  Over the past several years, I’ve been involved in various ways with the non-profit, Citizens for Families.  They do many great things, one of them is to promote White Ribbon Week and to provide materials to schools, PTA and parents to help in this effort.

From www.strengthenthefamily.net:

Citizens for Families is a community-wide effort which has the following goals:

  • To create a model city where everything inappropriate for children is out of their sight.
  • To develop a “community standard” that reflects a wholesome environment for children.
  • To strengthen the family and protect our community by educating parents, children, teachers, businessmen, and all members of the community.
  • To invite all organizations to join with us to accomplish our goals.

JoAnn Hamilton is the founder and has done innumerable things to promote decency and to strengthen families and communities.  She recently invited me to be the Utah County Coordinator for the efforts of Citizens for Families.   I’m excited to be partnering with her and her non-profit to further the work of promoting decency.

Enjoy this beautiful fall weather,

Busy Bottling

Try some yummy apple butter on homemade bread!

Maybe you’ve noticed I’ve been a little neglectful of my blog posts (if you are a regular reader anyway-I know I’ve got at least a few of you-thanks Mom!)  I’ve been busy bottling!  The fall harvest has kept me in the yard picking, in the basement sorting and in the kitchen bottling.  It’s such a fantastic project to do with kids! This week we’ve been working on pears, pear honey, apples, applesauce and my personal favorite-apple butter.  Here’s a link to the recipe for making apple butter!  It is best served warm on fresh whole wheat bread-so here’s my recipe for bread too!  Bosch Kitchen Center’s Whole Wheat and 12 Grain Bread Recipe (6 loaves in 21 minutes! not including the rising and baking of course).

Last week I had one of my favorite bonding moments with my children.  It was time to harvest the almonds.  We shook down the almond trees, collected them all up into baskets and then sat around our outdoor fire pit taking off the outer part.  We’d toss the fruit part into the fire pit and the nuts into a new basket.  We sang songs, told stories and just had the most joyful time enjoying a fall afternoon together harvesting the almonds.  I’m enjoying this beautiful fall weather soooo much!  It’s much more fun to be outside with my kids than typing on a computer!  None-the-less… my blogging addiction calls out to me after awhile as well.

Happy Fall Harvest To You!

Local PTC Leadership Growing

Last week we had our first Utah County Chapter meeting for the Parents Television Council.  Some great individuals and couples came to support the cause of the PTC.  We had many new members volunteer for positions of leadership filling our three committees (Education, Shareholders and Membership).  We are planning to host a booth at Provo’s First Night to continue educating the public on the mission of the PTC, seeking opportunites for public presentations and distributing literature.

Here is an article recently published by the PTC on their most recent research. … continue reading this entry.

Permission To Shine

Thanks for commenting Amy on my previous post regarding Botox and welcome to my blog.  I’m not sure who you are but I welcome your thoughts and opinions.  I agree whole-heartedly that women should put an emphasis on their physical beauty.  In fact, having decided to participate in Mrs. Utah in April to promote Decency, I would definitely consider myself a student of physical beauty and how to improve my own appearance.  I believe that how I am received physically not only has bearing on my own self-worth and level of confidence but also impacts my ability as a leader and to attract others to join in my non-profit work and to be interested in supporting and following the various causes I feel compelled to promote. … continue reading this entry.
